The Bakkerswinkel is housed in the Regulateurshuis, just inside the main entrance to the Westergasfabriek. Where possible, only local organic produce is used. Piet Hein Eek’s interior design features a large reading table, brightly coloured benches and a splendid waterside outdoor cafe area. The romantic loft is a perfect location for weddings and meetings. The extension with its wooden awning houses the bakery, selling bread, cakes, filled sandwiches, coffee and fresh juices – to take home or enjoy in the park.
Building history
Gas was pumped into the city from the Regulateurshuis at a regulated pressure. A kiosk under the awning issued gas coins and sold sacks of coal. The building’s public function and proximity to the city meant extra attention was paid to the fine decorative brickwork.
